The SeriousTruth

In a recent article called, “Make it Exciting,” a classmate wrote about voting and how it should be exiting. The writer presented ideas like ring tones, and online texting. The theory being that this would encourage young voters to line up to cast their vote. Being old enough to vote is a right and a privilege that should be taken seriously. Young American voters live in a country where mass market media targets our youth. Since the media is such a powerful medium, this would in fact present voting in a more favorable manner to young voters. If MTV says its cool then its cool. The Media should take more responsibility and inform and educate young voters about the importance of voting. The Media should offer more public service messages that directly target our youth. If the Media would present issues, in a more relevant facet to young adults, then perhaps our youth would gain enthusiasm and further insight of the Democratic process. Dealing with political issues may be unpopular with our youth, but funny ring tones are immature and do not represent American political society in a respectable manner. The politicians that are campaigning should come up with slogans that attract the young vote. “You are our future, your vote will determine the future.” “ Who you vote for today could have an impact on your education and ability to survive financially tomorrow.” “ You can line up to witness a sporting event or entertainment, so line up to vote and witness history impacted by you, the young American voter.” The only fun thing about voting is sharing the opportunity and privilege to vote with your father, mother, brothers and sisters and even your cool friends!! Being young is exiting, but at some point in life, you have to grow up and face the issues along with all your fellow Americans.
